Amy has clinical knowledge and experience of neurodivergence as a health professional over more than twenty years, and personal connections with autism and ADHD within her family. It has become clear to Amy over the years that families living with the challenges of neurodivergence can feel isolated and do not know what help is available, or where to get it. Sometimes, it is just so helpful to have someone to share and bounce ideas off, as well as gain more knowledge, resources, and most importantly, discover techniques and strategies to make life easier.
Amy says "even with this knowledge and understanding, it is often hard for me to apply this knowledge to my own family, because when a person is emotionally involved, it is harder to see things objectively. It is always helpful to have someone with knowledge to guide and support. If I find this, just imagine how isolating and daunting it can feel to manage neurodivergence without any help". It is this empathy, along with the knowledge, experience, and understanding, that underlies the ethos of Neurodiversity Plus.
We help with referrals for assessment, diagnosis, help with applying for benefits, and most importantly, support and guidance following diagnosis. A diagnosis can be life-changing. It can help to understand what is happening, and it can really help to gain access to help that is so sorely needed, but it is only the beginning. The most important thing is knowing what to do with that diagnosis and having a trusted professional to guide and support you.
Whether it is you that is struggling, or your child, teen or adult son or daughter, and most likely both, we can help you to manage the challenges more easily, with more confidence, and with support and direction, remembering that although there are challenges, there are also great positives and skills that people with neurodivergence can use to excel in what they do. We see the family as our client, rather than just one person, so they can work together, both in the home and outside the home, in all aspects of life.
Unfortunately, a most common experience of school and college for neurodiverse students is that the teaching style, and the environment for study, is not designed with them in mind, and they fall further and further behind. In some cases, the anxiety and exhaustion that manifests from masking and from falling behind can affect behaviour and in some cases can even lead to expulsion. With the tutoring that we source, the tutors are all trained by us to have an in-depth understanding of not only what neurodiversity is, but most importantly, how to use and apply different teaching styles and techniques that suit the individual student. With this personalised, one to one teaching, we are able to help our clients to maintain and increase their academic performance, opening more doors for the future, and hopefully keep them in mainstream education. Emotional regulation can also play a part in this.
We can help during education in school, college, or university, as well as finding direction and planning going forward.
We help with searching for appropriate jobs - paid or voluntary, apprenticeships, and careers, writing a good CV, preparing for job interviews and finding support and education within the workplace - not only for our clients, but also for their employers. We work with career coaches specialised in this field, and aim to help to bridge the gap between education and adult life.
Whether looking to gain assistance with managing life with neurodivergence - individually, as a family, in the workplace, in social settings, when applying for benefits, or pursuing interests and hobbies, we have something for everyone.
You can choose from our packages that offer both guidance and support without tutoring support, and guidance and support with tutoring support. We tailor our involvement to our clients individually. This way, we are able to provide different levels of support, according to individual need, and open up our expertise to help more people, catering for all levels of need and budget.
